kiki_miserychic: A Dinosaur and Kate Spade Shoes Fairytale (awkward flamingo)
VividCon Premieres 2012 Intro Vid (multi) - EPIC AS HALE. -[livejournal.com profile] greensilver

Fields of Coal (The Unusuals) - I have such a deep love of the show that I was worried the vid would just be someone who watched for Jeremy Renner. I cannot express how happy I was with this vid. I had a doofy smile on my face the entire time, even at the sad bits, because I was just so happy that it existed. -[livejournal.com profile] barkley

The Adventure (Harry Potter) - Who doesn't love Neville? If I had feelings, I'd probably have gotten misty. I thought it was interesting during In Depth when it was said that most of fandom is coming from the "same place" as Neville. I don't know how true it is, but I do know that Harry Potter, the character, was like boring sand paper to me, so anything that makes someone else's journey the focus it fantastic. -[livejournal.com profile] greensilver

Forever Yours (House) - The enthusiasm and love in this vid is unparalleled. It took 8 years and it needed to be made and it needed to loved by me. For a brief moment I forgot that Wilson was totally dying. -[livejournal.com profile] anoel

Let Me Put My Love in You (Bitchslap) - This movie owned me, so I was sold before the vid even started. The added bonus was that the vid is so amazing and I didn't want to blink for fear of missing a second. It has the witty tongue-in-cheek winking thing going for it because it never takes itself too seriously and when it does, there's a hilarious edit to bring it back to camp. -[livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain

Lateralus (Fringe) - I love how this stood out among the other vids because of how it handled the opening. It's all about consequences for actions. I'm continually torn over Walter's character because he's so many things and there's so many different ways to feel about his character. This pulls a lot of those feelings into one coherent vid. The cause and effect throughout the vid is killer. -[livejournal.com profile] rhoboat

White Rabbit (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) - Trippy as hell and I loved it. -[livejournal.com profile] shati

Masters of War (The Pegasus Rising Remix) (Stargate: Atlantis)- A lot of people in SGA fandom have been waiting years for a vid like this. Much like Lateralus from above, it's all about consequences. SGA tended to be a show of squee, but it always something dark with a mask painted over it for me. -[livejournal.com profile] bironic

Possession (Legend of the Seeker) - So beautiful. -[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu

The Lightning Strike (multi) - When the vid first started my thought was, "ohhh, Nicky would hate this. It's a bunch of white dudes clowning around making war." Then after a moment I recognized the editing and realized it was her vid. Oops, that will teach me to not look at the program beforehand. This is absolutely the ultimate epic slash vid throughout history and beyond. -[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] beccatoria's The Unforgiven Ones (Battlestar Galactica) - I'm continually in love with how she edits. The way she put things together and draw lines of comparison and contrast within the source. I especially love how she takes a storyline that was presented non-linearly in the source and reorder it in a way that pulls out deeper meanings.
Breakups on a Battlestar (Laura left her, again) (Battlestar Galactica) - The editing fucks me perfectly with the beautiful framing when the images flash back and forth. The music picks up and it's like an anger is released. It's tragically sad in the misdirection of the characters.
Breakups on a Battlestar (Laura left him, again) (Battlestar Galactica) - It's a pathetic kind of sad that makes me laugh at the misfortune of Lee in this vid. Laura/Lee started out as one of the most interesting relationships on the show and I love what this vid says about them.
Suicide Planet: The Future (Battlestar Galactica) - It's fantastic how she was able to incorporate different storylines and characters into D'Anna's net.
Suicide Planet: No Future (Battlestar Galactica) - I like how she set up the repetition in the editing to give it an definitive feel all of its own. It looks so soul crushing and suffocating to be Dee.

[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu's So What'cha Want (House) - holyshitballs. This is the best vid I've watched in a long time. I love what he does with House vid and this one is brillant. It's been a while since I've watched that season, but the vid brings it all back. My favorite part was everything. Seriously. The build, the music matches, cute movements. The progression is interesting too. A lot is included a lot is left out. What he left out is just as important as what he put in. The way he weaves storylines together is stellar too. The editing and look of the vid is BANANAS. It's the kind of vid that I'm going to roll it around in my head and watch a bunch more times because I know there's things buried in it.

[livejournal.com profile] counteragent's Above and Below (Supernatural) - Fantastic symbolism and clip interaction in the motion and how they mirror each other. The beat use is interesting as well, like which beats are emphasized.

dragonchic's Khwaab (The Dream) (Slumdog Millionaire) - Beautiful use of lighting and colors with style.

[livejournal.com profile] jarrow's Like My Very Own Blood (Battlestar Galactica) - It took me until now to watch the whole vid. It's very emotional and the cutting made it feel like a hammer on my soul or something. The music use is amazing coupled with the sense of timing and the elegantly violent clips. The concept is tightly constructed and executed. There's not a wasted second in the whole vid.

[livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream's They're Calling My Name (Supernatural) - A creepy and colorfully interesting vid with the visuals and motion matched well to the music.

I read on TMZ that Jeffrey Donovan (Michael Weston on Burn Notice) was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Sunday and my first thought was, "he didn't twitter that."

My neighbor's dog got out through a giant hole in their fence and the mail lady brought him to me, so I have a furry little ball of "OMGZIWANTATTENTION" licking at my fingers while I try to type. He's cute, but I don't like small dogs.

I've been cooking and baking a lot lately. I mean more than never when I say a lot. I made bacon and cheese stuffed beer burgers this weekend, which turned out well. I made ice cream cone cupcakes to take to a party too and they turned out freaking awesome.

ice cream cone cupcakes
by ~miserychic.

I've also been making my own cold-brewed coffee, which is so good that I think I might like it more than Starbucks. I know, I know, blasphemy, but it's true.

I've been using twitter instead of LJ for little things I find interesting. I used to make posts about little things, but now they're all on my twitter and never make it to LJ. This is probably a good thing because it spares everyone my squeeing over Eliza Dushku, Zachary Quinto, and Olivia Wilde; linking to pretty photographs; laughing about how I set off the smoke alarm baking; and mourning having deleted the Torchwood Children of Earth miniseries only to get a vid idea 3 days later. Link to my twitter.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] newkidfan's Blood Makes Noise (Lost) - A gorgeous layering and coloring that is lush and full with jumpcut editing and wavering images. The interesting framing choices feel like the zeroing in on a microscope that amps up the intensity and tension along with the effects. It doesn't hurt that I gave her the musical prompt because I've wanted to see this song vidded well to Lost for as long as the show has been on the air.

[livejournal.com profile] danegen's Down by the Water (Southland) - I've never watched Southland, but that didn't matter because I was able to plug into the more emotional aspect of the vid. I know I'm missing the depth and understanding that would come with knowing the source, but the vid is still terrific in the use of imagery. It feels like a great study of objects and how people can become objects in that sense. I think my favorite aspect is how a woman's dead body is transformed into a landscape.

WashingTones' Dr. House is a wicked cool music video that uses footage of the band performing and source footage from the show, House, too. The end result is an engaging music video that has me bopping around and singing the chorus in the shower.
kiki_miserychic: A Dinosaur and Kate Spade Shoes Fairytale (how i met your mother ~ naked man)
spoilers for the last two episodes of House, but it's less about the show and more about my crazed emotions and soapboxing about Intervention Specialist things )

My doctor's appointment ok. They're bringing in another doctor at the Wound Center and he came along with my doctor for the day. We went over my case history, which was great fun for me... not. I get that he was shadowing to get a feel for the place, but he put gloves on started poking at my leg with no warning. I said something like "whoa, you're not my doctor" and got a bit irritated. I felt like an jerk, but he wasn't technically employeed by the Center yet. It hurt something awful too because my leg didn't even have the numbing liquid on it yet. My actual doctor made joke about him trying to steal her patients. One of the nurses apologized later, saying he had been doing that all day because he's used to working with patients, but not people.

Good new: The second wound is healed! I don't even have to have a bandage on it. The doctor said the front one should be healed up by the beginning of March. There's light at the end of the MRSA Tunnel!!!!!!!

My Thursday night classes are cancelled for the rest of the semester and the final is over e-mail because the professor's father is dying. My Teaching and Learning Process class already had the final, so we just have class. My Literacy class finished early too. For those finals I have a 103% and a 92%, respectively. On the tenth I find out my grades for my student teaching because I did the final early because my cooperating teacher is having surgery. I'm not worried about that grade because I rocked it. Out of a 200 point scale I was marked off one for not wearing dress shoes. My CT said to wear tennis shoes in case I needed to run after a child. Even after I explained the situation she still marked me off. I think my professor was offended by my chucks. In the grand scheme of things, it's only a half of a percent and I know it isn't an issue.

Michael Showalter toured blogs and stopped at stereogum to talk about music

I has thinky thoughts on Adrian Pasdar in relation to vidding. Let me show you them. )

VID RECS:
Abbey's Half-Boyfriend (House) - I love everything from start to finish, from the sheer musicality of the editing to the pacing.

[livejournal.com profile] buffyann's When the Sun Goes Down (Queer as Folk) - Sparkly, flashy, colorful, motion-filled, flow-y goodness.

[livejournal.com profile] dualbunny's Cuz I Can (Battlestar Galactica) - I can't believe I've never has this in my recs. Prepare for your mind to be blown.

[livejournal.com profile] heidi8's Faith (Heroes) - A season two Peter/Nathan vid that it too adorably cute for it's own good.

[livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana's La Resistance (Heroes) - Too perfect lyric matches that make my face hurt from smiling.

[livejournal.com profile] meivocis's The Noose (Heroes) - There's something about this vid that grabs me. It may be the odd editing or the off kilter nature of the vid that makes it meaningful and interesting.

[livejournal.com profile] ryty's melancholia (Multi) - This was done as a film studies thingy for his class "Age of Melancholy" and it made me flipping depressed for the entire vid and for about twenty minutes afterward.

Amanda, some of her friends, and I went to the Carnival of Terror and it sucked big. We had to walk forever to get to the different parts and they were lame anyways. Between one of the set ups there were guys with chainless chainsaws. One of them ran it over the backs of my legs when I went by and chased me, so I started freaking out (because they aren't allowed to touch the people) screaming "you can't touch me, you cock!" To which he replied, "you know you like it."

My brain feels like bavarian jello. I simply cannot retain anything else. I have reached my limit for this semester. I'm run down to the point where I can't get concerned about things. I was so worried for my Assistive Technology midterm, but I was blaise about my SensoryMotor one. I did well on both. For so long this semester I've been overwhelmed and I think I've finally shut down and can't take anymore in.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] _becca84_'s C'mon, C'mon (Chuck) - Well handled music and action with driving energy in the editing.
[livejournal.com profile] charmax's deus ibi est (Supernatural) - Perfectly odd song choice, cool titles, layering, movement, use of stillness and objects, transitioning, and paralleling.
[livejournal.com profile] charmax's Respectable (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - Great song, pacing, lyrics, music, and use of linear storytelling.
dayln's Lay Me Down to Sleep (Battlestar Galactica) - Extremely pretty effects, layers, coloring,
di's Windmill, Windmill (House) - Way cool color, effects, pacing, clip choice, and editing that comes together in a sea of awesomeness.
[livejournal.com profile] greensilver's Ohh (Dante's Cove) - Makes bad tv look good.
[livejournal.com profile] jescaflowne's Another Sunday (Stargate: Atlantis) - Crazy fun that's this side of awesome.
[livejournal.com profile] sol_se's Halloween (Heroes) - I love this flipping vid for the editing and subtle effects.
[livejournal.com profile] thandie's Lepcis Magna (Supernatural) - Editing and pacing melded perfectly to the music.

I still haven't adjusted to my new schedule. There's a rather large chunk of my time between my morning classes and my afternoon/evening classes where I do my papers and assignments, but after that's done I'm left with a considerable amount of time where I can't do much of anything that I would like to do (as in vidding, doing fanart, or anything that requires a computer). The campus library is ok for checking e-mail and flist skimming, but I could never use one of the college's laptops to write p0rny fanfic or stream a vid. So lately I've been taking my sketchbook and going nuts on it. I've also been taking more photos and videos than usual. I think the phototaking is a reaction to the fact that I've been alive for 21 years and I feel like I need proof.

Also, I've noticed that my journal has become more and more about vidding over the last year or so. I've never been one for a personal day to day journal. My life is pretty boring, but if there's something I feel like writing about in my personal life, I'll do it. I think with vidding, more so than writing or fanart or music, I found an outlet that I felt comfortable with. It's almost like vidding is a pulling together of all my interests. I was never that good at writing, doing fanart, producing music, or interacting people online, but vidding feels like bringing all those things I was medicore at together to be something that I consider myself to be fairly good at.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] anoel's The Trouble with Poets (Highlander) - Even with only a hazy childhood knowledge of Highlander, I can't get enough of this vid. It has sound matching, beautiful editing, progression, and parallelling.
[livejournal.com profile] anoel's Volcano (Queer as Folk US) - The movement is amazing and everything flows like it's liquid.

[livejournal.com profile] greensilver's Ghost Song (Supernatural) - One of my favorite vids because of the quirky and off-kilter editing, structure, look, feel, atmosphere, editing, and basically everything.
[livejournal.com profile] greensilver's Ooh La La (The Dead Zone) - Great matching to music and use of source that can't help but make you want to dance.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's The Other Side (House) - Religion makes me uncomfortable (just ask my Introduction to World Religion class), but this Chase vid is handled with a reverent and caring feel.

[livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain's West of Her Spine (Dexter) - There's so many beautiful naunces and doubles meanings with wicked skill.

I got my grades for last semester and they’re not bad considering it was the first full semester I worked during, but I got a B in Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers and Art History II, and an A in Introduction to Biology (with my time consuming lab grade smushed in) and Introduction to Mythology. The sucky part is that I was .78% away from an A in Art History, not even a whole percent. Oh well, I thought I was going to fail Art History and I was worried about my Mathematics and Bio finals, so it’s all good.

I took a slight break from the internet over the holidays to spend time my family and friends. Thankfully, the family didn’t fight as much as I thought. All my Christmases were great and my New Years was awesome too.

I decided to finish the season one Dexter character vid if it killed me. When I finish, I’ll slowly go through my backlog of lj posts, emails, messages, etcetera, so hopefully I’ll be caught up soon so to speak. I don’t have much of the vid left either; just some tinkering, beta-ing, and then saving. It’s crazy and weird, so I’m not sure it will go over well. I’ll have a rough cut soon if anyone wants to check it out and give me their opinion...

I’m behind on feedback because I don’t watch vids while I vid, but I do have a rec from before I went into hibernation:

VID REC: [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu’s My Little Drum - A House vid with amazing music, just the right touch of Christmas, sadness, happiness... It has a nice flow and great clip connections, overlays, and it takes the whole first season and presents it beautifully.

Because cool people like me wait to do the end of the year meme things, I give you my first end of the year vidding meme: 2006 Vidding Meme )

Oh, life. I only have one final (Sociology) to go tomorrow. wootwoot.

Lost, The Office US, Green Wing, Veronica Mars were flipping good this week and one quick thing about last night's Grey's Anatomy ) I won't be able to watch it tonight because I have to go to the church's Mother/Daughter Banquet thingy with my gramma. I haven't watched Big Love and The Sopranos, but the latter has been slightly craptastic lately.
kiki_miserychic: A Dinosaur and Kate Spade Shoes Fairytale (Default)
I luff John Krasinski. Yeah, that's right, luff. Just saw him on Leno. He's like semi-Dane Cook. He's quasi-Dane Cook. He's the margarine of Dane Cook. He's the Diet Coke of Dane Cook. With a pinch of Denis Leary. Which is the awesomest awesome to ever awesome.

I'm two episodes behind on Veronica Mars, I have to rewatch tonight's House (I was doing something else and all I remember is that Chase was really pretty), I'm 16 episodes behind on Smallville (that's almost the whole season), and I'm behind on other shows too, but screw 'em for now.

My finals are this week, then I start my summer classes next week with a four day break in between. Yuck. But I took five week courses, so it won't be too bad.

Michelle Rodriguez sketch. Weird, I know.

I can't sleep, so I give recs:

Video: [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's House vid Strangest Land - It's flows beautifully with the music, it's lyrical and dreamy, it's a great look at the House and Wilson relationship, and it delves past the surface of a relationship that appears to be all surface at times.

Music: A Perfect Circle - Fiddle and Drum - It's a stunning and beautiful a capella Joni Mitchell cover. I've been listening to it on repeat since I downloaded it. I'm thinking of using it for a Stargate: Atlantis video that focuses on John Sheppard, his actions, and how he's perceived, but I'm not sure yet.

Fic: [livejournal.com profile] ingrid_m's Battlestar Galactica Scenes From an Occupation (5 Drabbles) - It's funny, cute, and uplifting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Libby, Brittany, and Sarah Jane. Figure you bitches had to born so close together. Love you.

Lib got me the "Firefly" series DVD and the "Profit" series DVD for herself.

I've been watching "Deadwood" season one on DVD from Netflix and I'm so pissed off. I'm on disc 4 and I've sent it back twice because the first was cracked in half and the second was scratched to hell. It sucks like Trixie.

Tuesday was sorta a bad day, but I was still in a good mood. My College Composition teacher didn't show, so everyone left after 15 minutes, which gave me an extra hour for lunch with Sarah Beth and Sarah Jane. We went to a cold Subway and talked loudly about "nip/tuck". My Oral Communications class was meeting in the library, so I had Sarah Beth explain how to get a laptop from the library about twenty times. I gave the counter person my driver's lisence and college ID, then left my wallet there and walked away with the laptop cuz I'm cool like that. Working on the laptop I didn't realize it was 5 after and the library was kinda big, so I didn't know where the rest of my class was, so I walked around and found them. The teacher was having mini-meeting to talk about our speech topics, so I plopped down on the floor and started researching and junk with a few people from my class. Brandy came over, looked at me, looked at the laptop, gave me a thumbs up, and said, "whoa, you even brought your laptop from home to work on and I don't even have a topic. I explained it was school and everyone was relieved I wasn't a nerd who brought her laptop to class. After class I went to return the laptop and the lady said, "oh, this is the girl we've been looking for." I'd left my wallet and the nice guy behind me tried to return it, but couldn't find me, so he turned it in. And thank god because I had way too much cash in there from tossing a five in for lunch and then not taking out the change when adding to it.

Yuck, I now have a stomach virus. I want to die. My night was embarrassing. Libby and I went out to a nice restaurant for her birthday and I threw up in their bathroom, so we left. Then we had to stop twice on the way home so I could throw up.
