VID RECS (VVC disc 1 - also premiering):
[livejournal.com profile] keewick's Stars (Dexter) - My god, my heart aches when I watch this vid. I'm in awe of how it's constructed with only vague hints as to the true nature. It's the sweetness and love that Rita must feel and see. The vid is filtered through her and her life. She doesn't know what we know, doesn't see what we see. She sees a life that she's made with someone else that helped her come out of a protective shell that she made for herself when she needed it. The clip choice and editing is very restrained, which is a feat in and of itself. I can see how it would have been easy to let even more of the true nature of the show to creep into the vid. The first shot is like she's inviting us into her life to show us her world. The song choice is beautiful as well. I've watched a couple of times in different ways.

[livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift's This Is The Place (Burn Notice) - The editing style is so perfect for the show, how it's well timed, yet jerky and stilted on the beat. I really dig how the scenes are paralleled amoung each other. The song choice is great too and I like how it plays into Michael's more manic moments.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's Bachelorette (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - Brillant editing, attention grabbing opening, epic and sweeping feeling, and amazing connections and concept.

[livejournal.com profile] keewick's Unforgivable? (Harry Potter) - The symbol use is amazing, especially the birds. The juxtaposition of the brutality of the Harry Potter universe coupled with the sweetness of Luna is jarring, yet lovely in contrast because it breeds hope. It's like her mere presense is calming in answer to the terrible nature of what surrounds her.

A handful of long overdue VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] charmax's Cry Me a River (Lost and Delirious) - Blissful editing that contains so much pain and love.

[livejournal.com profile] dayln03's Breathe Me (Friday Night Lights) - With such texture and effects, it feels light, yet heavy in a meaningful way.

[livejournal.com profile] keewick's Recessional (Dead Like Me) - Beautiful and understated editing that emphasizes the quiet motion and natural connections.

[livejournal.com profile] kuwdora's Reinvent Yourself (Heroes) - Great motion, use of beat, and pacing.

[livejournal.com profile] special_trille's Twist (Dexter) - A bittersweet mixture of music and source with blissful use of beat and lyrics.

[livejournal.com profile] super_kc's Karma Police (Battlestar Galactica) - After watching 4x01 of BSG, I went back to watch some Final Four vids and fell in love with this interestingly distorted and desolately disjointed (yet connected) look at the Final Four.

[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye's Back Then (Doctor Who) - Lovely editing style, song choice, and a killer piano section.

[livejournal.com profile] wistful_fever's Four Years (Stargate: Atlantis) - A comprehesive and graceful exploration of Sheppard/McKay.

My New Years Eve was rather crappy, so I’m going to pretend that 2008 begins on January 2, so that my year doesn’t start horribly. Please indulge me in this delusion.

I think a softer world sums it up fairly well.

I still haven't adjusted to my new schedule. There's a rather large chunk of my time between my morning classes and my afternoon/evening classes where I do my papers and assignments, but after that's done I'm left with a considerable amount of time where I can't do much of anything that I would like to do (as in vidding, doing fanart, or anything that requires a computer). The campus library is ok for checking e-mail and flist skimming, but I could never use one of the college's laptops to write p0rny fanfic or stream a vid. So lately I've been taking my sketchbook and going nuts on it. I've also been taking more photos and videos than usual. I think the phototaking is a reaction to the fact that I've been alive for 21 years and I feel like I need proof.

Also, I've noticed that my journal has become more and more about vidding over the last year or so. I've never been one for a personal day to day journal. My life is pretty boring, but if there's something I feel like writing about in my personal life, I'll do it. I think with vidding, more so than writing or fanart or music, I found an outlet that I felt comfortable with. It's almost like vidding is a pulling together of all my interests. I was never that good at writing, doing fanart, producing music, or interacting people online, but vidding feels like bringing all those things I was medicore at together to be something that I consider myself to be fairly good at.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] anoel's The Trouble with Poets (Highlander) - Even with only a hazy childhood knowledge of Highlander, I can't get enough of this vid. It has sound matching, beautiful editing, progression, and parallelling.
[livejournal.com profile] anoel's Volcano (Queer as Folk US) - The movement is amazing and everything flows like it's liquid.

[livejournal.com profile] greensilver's Ghost Song (Supernatural) - One of my favorite vids because of the quirky and off-kilter editing, structure, look, feel, atmosphere, editing, and basically everything.
[livejournal.com profile] greensilver's Ooh La La (The Dead Zone) - Great matching to music and use of source that can't help but make you want to dance.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's The Other Side (House) - Religion makes me uncomfortable (just ask my Introduction to World Religion class), but this Chase vid is handled with a reverent and caring feel.

[livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain's West of Her Spine (Dexter) - There's so many beautiful naunces and doubles meanings with wicked skill.

Stronger Forest (A retrospective character study of season one Sylar of "Heroes") was in the Nearly New show at Vividcon '07 and Blood Red Summer (an experimental season one and two character study of Veronica Mar’s Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas) was in [livejournal.com profile] elynross’ Daughter of Experimental Vids (Where the Hell's the Box?!) show. It would seem that VVC has a thing for my vids about serial killers because Ramalama (Bang Bang) (season one Dexter character study) is the only one of my serial killer trilogy that did not go to VVC.

I decided the other day I was going to get a credit card to build my credit up for later in life. I’m nearly 21 and I have no credit history, so I figured I should build my credit history by getting a credit card. I got a thingy in the mail about student credit cards and Lib said to apply. I don’t plan on using it for anything because I know too many people my age up to their eyeballs in debt. I got a letter today saying that they won’t approve me for one because I have no credit history. Well yeah, that’s why I want a one of your student credit cards: to build my history. I think it’s hi-lari-ous that I get bunches of those preapproved credit cards in the mail and shred them, but when I actually want one, they won’t give me one.

VID RECS (last one from VVC, first two not):
[livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior’s Sing for Absolution (Doctor Who) - Beautiful and interesting editing style with dreamlike transitions and coloring.

[livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior’s You Cut Her Hair (Doctor Who) - This vid has such a breathtaking mood and the atmosphere with wonderful layers and color blending transitions, while the editing, style, and clip choice are perfect. This broke me and is probably my favorite Doctor Who vid ever.

[livejournal.com profile] sol_se’s Filthy Mind (Multi) - A freaking seamless, flowy, blended, beautiful, danceable, connected piece of vidding complicated and complex web of crossfandom interaction heaven.

FIC REC:
[livejournal.com profile] them0rgue’s Stolen Virtues of Lesser Men (Heroes)
Sylar/Mohinder. Rated T for Teen. Spoilers through "Five Years Gone."
Sylar's not in the business of competition.

Seem how my question on the request board is getting NOWHERE, I come to my flist with my problem ) It fixed itself somehow.

Also, someone needs to stop me from making a Heroes' Sylar vid to Dj Moule's Stronger Forest

Hollywood’s Right Here, Right Now - A Stargate: Atlantis tension building, expertly edited and paced piece of sheer beauty.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24’s Changes - A brilliant Smallville vid that focuses on the relationship between Lex and Clark and melds comic book source seamlessly with amazing effects and clip connections.

Fabella’s Hemorrhage - A Supernatural vid with very cool effects, time toggling, and sequences.

[livejournal.com profile] chasarumba’s Make Lemonade - A sickly awesome Dexter vid with great little moments that will creep you out in a good way.

I got my grades for last semester and they’re not bad considering it was the first full semester I worked during, but I got a B in Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers and Art History II, and an A in Introduction to Biology (with my time consuming lab grade smushed in) and Introduction to Mythology. The sucky part is that I was .78% away from an A in Art History, not even a whole percent. Oh well, I thought I was going to fail Art History and I was worried about my Mathematics and Bio finals, so it’s all good.

I took a slight break from the internet over the holidays to spend time my family and friends. Thankfully, the family didn’t fight as much as I thought. All my Christmases were great and my New Years was awesome too.

I decided to finish the season one Dexter character vid if it killed me. When I finish, I’ll slowly go through my backlog of lj posts, emails, messages, etcetera, so hopefully I’ll be caught up soon so to speak. I don’t have much of the vid left either; just some tinkering, beta-ing, and then saving. It’s crazy and weird, so I’m not sure it will go over well. I’ll have a rough cut soon if anyone wants to check it out and give me their opinion...

I’m behind on feedback because I don’t watch vids while I vid, but I do have a rec from before I went into hibernation:

VID REC: [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu’s My Little Drum - A House vid with amazing music, just the right touch of Christmas, sadness, happiness... It has a nice flow and great clip connections, overlays, and it takes the whole first season and presents it beautifully.

Because cool people like me wait to do the end of the year meme things, I give you my first end of the year vidding meme: 2006 Vidding Meme )

[livejournal.com profile] butterfly's Hallelujah - Angel's Wesley and everyone and everything and it breaks your heart. An amazing timeline that circles around itself to come together wonderfully.

Lastly, for [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 because in the hall the college today someone randomly yelled out "Steve Holt" with their arms raised, which made me think of Arrested Development and then this.

I actually vidded some today... after not vidding for nearly a month. I'm putting a slight hold on the Dexter vid until season one is over so I can do a season one vid.

Mac dropped Justin Long from their ads. It’s a sad, sad day when I’m lamenting the lost of a guy on computer commercials. It makes me miss the Dell guy a little too.

My day sucked out loud.

I’m never going to finish my Dexter vid because every time there’s a new episode I watch it and think, “omg, that shot is perfect for ____”. Damn the awesomeness of Dexter. (see userpic)

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] shati’s Five on the Dime A Buffy the Vampire Slayer vid that pulls images, moments, and scenes together to form this beautiful blanket of what Buffy is and the moments that made it what is was.
[livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl’s There There A Battlestar Galactica Sharon vid with a great color palate, clip choice, and pacing.
[livejournal.com profile] gwyn_r’s Digging in the Dirt A Battlestar Galactica Gaius Baltar vid with very cool effects from a vidder than doesn’t like Gauis, which brings out amazing things.

Went out with some friends and had fun, felt like an ass because we got to the club and had to go back home because I’d forgotten my ID, like a loser.

I’m in love with Jenny Lewis and Jonathan Rice – Little Boxes, so download if you wish.
