VID RECS (VVC disc 2 - premieres part 2):
[livejournal.com profile] jescaflowne's Go Baby (Charlie's Angels (films)) - So much fun and silliness in the editing of the clips. The editing on the dancing to the music is FABULOUS!

[livejournal.com profile] millylicious's In My Veins (Heroes) - Amazing use of building and releasing tension musically, great comparisons and contrasts, sense of mood, coloring, and lighting.

[livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain's Keeper of the Fire not available online as of now (Multi) - Excellent stringing of so many different sources together. It's so interesting to see all the different kinds of narratives compared and paralleled. The editing of so many different shows is amazing because I can tell what clip is from what show, but it all feels like it fits together.

I realized I'm terrible with words, so I started making book covers for the fics I enjoy as a form of feedback. I also made a little vidlet for one as well.

FIC RECS:

[livejournal.com profile] millylicious's The Music Box - Sylar/Claire, Nathan/Claire(ish) of Heroes. (Broken things need fixing.) -Download link for vid.

[livejournal.com profile] kuwdora's Through the Gates of Pandaemonium - Sylar/Mohinder of Heroes. (Abyssus abyssum invocat (Hell invokes Hell).)

[livejournal.com profile] dollsome's Lines - Sierra/Victor of Dollhouse. (Victor, Sierra, and crayons.)

[livejournal.com profile] raphaela667's the ups and downs of you - Kirk/Spock of the Star Trek Reboot. (Starfleet first officers did not regress to childhood without at least submitting prior warning to their commanding officers. They'd established that after the whole Pon Farr mess last year. There were rules about Vulcan biology and scaring the hell out of Jim now. This had to be in violation of at least three of them.)

[livejournal.com profile] beccatoria's The name of this story is your name. - Caprica of Battlestar Galactica. (What if Caprica didn't actually die. Ever.)

It's been a while since I've done a recs post. I had some ridic computer problems, then I was vidding non-stop and I don't watch vids while I vid. I have this deep fear of ripping someone off without realizing it. I've missed a ton of recent vids and these are a few that I've enjoyed.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] aycheb's Nobody loves you (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) - Amazing structure and use of the black and white. The change of pace and flow into Weaver is glorious, especially with the added layer of it being her voice. I really like the way the vid takes time with clips and allows them to breathe. I love how long and drawn out it feels. The doors opening is brillantly edited. Coming back to Ellison as the focus with Weaver and then John Henry brings Ellison into focus and the things he was faced with and how he reacts and interacts with the new information. This vid connected me with Ellison in a way I didn't in the series. Beautiful plays of light too. And the use of the graves with "all humans die eventually."

[livejournal.com profile] kuwdora's Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect (Heroes) - The movement and meticulous nature of the clip choice is thrilling. The song is so perfect for Sylar. He's right there in the lyrics and in the feel of the song and Abbey was able to pull him out and calculate him exactly. Sadly, there are some amazing Heroes vids that are underappreciated because of the lack of interest in the show, but that shouldn't hold anyone back from enjoying this vid. It's so freaking good. My reading of the vid is colored by my view of Sylar, so I see Sylar trying to change for other people, but ultimately rejecting it. He's so many different people and things, but some of them were forced on him instead of a choice. He's a watchmaker's son, then he was a Petrelli, then he was an orphan, then he was a million other things. But in this vid, he dreamt he was an architect instead of fixing the work of someone else. Death is his art and he makes it with his hands day after day.
With bonus vid commentary.

[livejournal.com profile] mithborien's Goodnight, demon slayer (Supernatural) - Extremely well edited with how Sam and Dean as grown ups are barely in the vid at all and their adult faces are obstructed or distorted when they are. Very cool idea of keeping the on them when they were younger, yet still hinting at their grown up lives within the show.

Macro rec for [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's Fall of Man (Supernatural)

[livejournal.com profile] sol_se's So What (Prison Break) - I want to know this Gretchen character. She looks like my kind of woman. I stopped watching Prison Break before she was on, but I'm able to get the gist with clip choice, parallel clips, interesting interactions and connections, facial movements, and narrative. I want to be her PIC because Grechen is in ur show, brakin' up ur sausage fest.

[livejournal.com profile] winterevanesce's Like a Boss (Supernatural) - Oh shit. Great clip choice and sync. HI-LARIOUS lyric use too.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] butterfly's Jacob Marley's Chain (Merlin) - A haunting Uther vid with simmer and barely contained emotions in the languid editing.

[livejournal.com profile] charmax's Smile (Buffy and Angel) - BEWBS ARE KEWL in this cute and fun vid.

[livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c's Supernatural (In My Pants) (Supernatural) - You haven't lived until you've laughed with this vid.

[livejournal.com profile] millylicious's Pandora's Box (Heroes) - She is a sick genius and I loves it. The vid is so creepy and amazing that I want to have it's scary Elle and Sylar babies.
[livejournal.com profile] millylicious's Soldier (Merlin) - Quiet sadness soaks this Hunith vid right along the sheer joy and beauty.

[livejournal.com profile] obsessive24's Love Lockdown (Battlestar Galactica) - An amazing destruction and construction of Gina/Cain that uses repeated imagery to give a more full representation with limited source.

COMIC/COLLAGE:
[livejournal.com profile] dogeared and [livejournal.com profile] aesc's Escape Velocity (Stargate: Atlantis) - This blew my mind with creativity and innovation. It's set before 5x16 with the Vegas!verse that pays such mind to composition and interaction between text and image that I could stare it at.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] bradcpu's Man in the Box (House) - A fluidly kinetic, energy filled, extremely well constructed look at some deeper parts of the show, character, and interactions. It's like the Teachings of Gregory House's Questionable Ethics When Getting the End Diagnosis Justifies the Cruel Means.

[livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl's Run for Your Life (Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars) - Creepy and odd vid to a killer remix with the right balance of cutesy music matching and serious editing mojo.

[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye's Souvenirs (Life) - Great editing cues with the weirdness of the music and brillant clip choice coupled with a messily perfect vid of calculated choppiness!

[livejournal.com profile] untrue_accounts's Low Red Moon (Supernatural) - Such elaborate symbol use and connections with a sharp eye for quirky movement to the beats.
kiki_miserychic: A Dinosaur and Kate Spade Shoes Fairytale (Default)
RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] artanis0010's Sylar Fanmix, Monster in the Machine, is absolutely stellar with art that is bloody gorgeous.

[livejournal.com profile] jarrow and [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro's Half Acre (Sex Feet Under) - This vid made me cry tears I didn't know I had left for Six Feet Under. The clips they used come together so beautifully to give a huge picture of the family. It goes beyond the beginning and end of the series and feels like the character's whole lives right there on screen. The emotion spills over in the slow and leisurely editing that is lovely.

[livejournal.com profile] lucy_fic's The Intimacy Continuum - An episode tag fic for 2x11 - "The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis" of The Big Bang Theory that has spot on character voices.

summary: This little vid is my birthday present to [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora, who deserves to be showered with praise and adoration in all forms. She made I Kissed a Boy for my birthday, which is so good that I still want to take it to a club and freak dance all over it. So for her birthday I pillaged her Heroes fics for the basis of her birthday vid, which is a blatant and not as awesome rip off of her birthday present. The Fifth Wheel (in which I flail over all the pretties from The Fourth Wall as I plow through them):

Mister Anderson's Every Penguin Dance Now (Happy Feet) - Throughly enjoyable, Extremely well executed lip sync-ing, great rhythm in the editing and motion, and completely adorable. I love the slides on the snow at about 3:00.

[livejournal.com profile] meivocis's The Noose (Heroes) - There's something about it that I love, but I can't put my finger on it. The editing is odd and off kilter in a meaningful and interesting way. The clip choices and the use of the source with the music is insipred. All that comes together into an amazing vid.

[livejournal.com profile] winterevanesce's Sick (Resident Evil Trilogy) - Holy crap, this vid is so kick ass. There's great clip choices and the coloring and effects, which are grossly awesome. Using the remix version of the song is fantastic.

[livejournal.com profile] cherryice's Only (Battlestar: Galactica) - The way all the characters are weaved together in such a complex web is amazing. There's deep thought put into it and amazing motion. I don't really have the words to express myself, suffice to say: lksajfldlkeyboardsmashofamazingnessadf.

[livejournal.com profile] dayln03's The Scars of All I'll Ever Know (Supernatural) - The layering conveys so much meaning in so little time. Also, yay for manip smooches. The coloring and effects are so pretty and the AU comes across beautifully.

A handful of long overdue VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] charmax's Cry Me a River (Lost and Delirious) - Blissful editing that contains so much pain and love.

[livejournal.com profile] dayln03's Breathe Me (Friday Night Lights) - With such texture and effects, it feels light, yet heavy in a meaningful way.

[livejournal.com profile] keewick's Recessional (Dead Like Me) - Beautiful and understated editing that emphasizes the quiet motion and natural connections.

[livejournal.com profile] kuwdora's Reinvent Yourself (Heroes) - Great motion, use of beat, and pacing.

[livejournal.com profile] special_trille's Twist (Dexter) - A bittersweet mixture of music and source with blissful use of beat and lyrics.

[livejournal.com profile] super_kc's Karma Police (Battlestar Galactica) - After watching 4x01 of BSG, I went back to watch some Final Four vids and fell in love with this interestingly distorted and desolately disjointed (yet connected) look at the Final Four.

[livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye's Back Then (Doctor Who) - Lovely editing style, song choice, and a killer piano section.

[livejournal.com profile] wistful_fever's Four Years (Stargate: Atlantis) - A comprehesive and graceful exploration of Sheppard/McKay.

You know you vid too much when:
I had a conversation with a friend about how the area where we live is greatly influenced by the past economy, which is as boring as it sounds. Decades ago the economy was centered on the trains that went through, but now the arcitecture reflects the change in economy because there are so many train stations that were converted for other uses. That's when my brain went off on a sidebar to the thought that in the vid of my life, my therapist's office would be contrasted with the art studio I had my internship at because both buildings were originally train stations, but were converted. Of course that section would include the charcoal substraction piece I did of a train. Yep. That's a sign I vid too much.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift's Faultline (Supernatural) - Subtle movement, strikingly perfect music, and great POV changes that come together in an understated way to make a sad and amazing vid.
[livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift's Patterns (Life) - An absolute masterpiece of flares, desaturation, gradients, layers, and motion that makes you feel like you're on a beautiful ride.

Fabella's What Goes Around (Heroes) - Of course, Sylar's feelings for Mohinder would be best expressed through a song from Justin Timberlake.

[livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana's My Old Man Had A Pistol (Heroes) - Matt and his seemingly shiny and bright surface with the dark and sad interior.

[livejournal.com profile] shati's Help is Coming (Heroes) - A fully realized vid of sadness and hope with seamless and natural editing.

My Thursday night classes are cancelled for the rest of the semester and the final is over e-mail because the professor's father is dying. My Teaching and Learning Process class already had the final, so we just have class. My Literacy class finished early too. For those finals I have a 103% and a 92%, respectively. On the tenth I find out my grades for my student teaching because I did the final early because my cooperating teacher is having surgery. I'm not worried about that grade because I rocked it. Out of a 200 point scale I was marked off one for not wearing dress shoes. My CT said to wear tennis shoes in case I needed to run after a child. Even after I explained the situation she still marked me off. I think my professor was offended by my chucks. In the grand scheme of things, it's only a half of a percent and I know it isn't an issue.

VID RECS:
Abbey's Half-Boyfriend (House) - I love everything from start to finish, from the sheer musicality of the editing to the pacing.

[livejournal.com profile] buffyann's When the Sun Goes Down (Queer as Folk) - Sparkly, flashy, colorful, motion-filled, flow-y goodness.

[livejournal.com profile] dualbunny's Cuz I Can (Battlestar Galactica) - I can't believe I've never has this in my recs. Prepare for your mind to be blown.

[livejournal.com profile] heidi8's Faith (Heroes) - A season two Peter/Nathan vid that it too adorably cute for it's own good.

[livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana's La Resistance (Heroes) - Too perfect lyric matches that make my face hurt from smiling.

[livejournal.com profile] meivocis's The Noose (Heroes) - There's something about this vid that grabs me. It may be the odd editing or the off kilter nature of the vid that makes it meaningful and interesting.

[livejournal.com profile] ryty's melancholia (Multi) - This was done as a film studies thingy for his class "Age of Melancholy" and it made me flipping depressed for the entire vid and for about twenty minutes afterward.

My friends and I were out Friday at the lamest bar known to man. It was a friend of a friends' birthday, so we took her out. Of course my stupid self didn't know her dad was the mayor of my town. I am made of epic fail. She's fun, but I wish I'd known before. That way I wouldn't have done half the things I did. It was her first time in a club so we took her to a tame one. No gay bars. :)

My grandparents are on vacation again, which means I'm cooking Thanksgiving Slapsgiving dinner for the family... If you don't hear from me it's because I burned my house down. Seriously. I didn't know it took days to defrost a turkey and I'm thinking about taking my mini-blow torch to it.

VID RECS:
[livejournal.com profile] astartexx's Jesus Christ [alt: Wood and Nails] (Supernatural) - Every choice made by the vidder feels right from the black and white to the editing choices to the clip choice to the framing to the use of the lyrics to everything. It makes my heart squeeze tight. After this vid I think I need a hug as much as Dean does.

[livejournal.com profile] butterfly's Digging the Heroine (Heights) - It's understated, like the movie itself. The vid weaves come of the threads from the movie together.

gwyneth and jo's I Remember (Charlie Jade) - Striking and stark visuals with a harsh mood. Don't let lack of fandom knowledge keep you away.

Eunice's And She Was (Doctor Who) - This is the Rose I remember and love.
Eunice's Don't Touch That Dial (Doctor Who) - This is my Martha.

Jessie's The River (Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - Smart use of the lyrics and quick editing with the drumbeats.

[livejournal.com profile] kazbaby's Eurydiceverse (Stargate: SG-1) - A layered and moody vid with so much under the surface.

kitty's On Top (Supernatural) - Great use of outtakes and other footage to create a cute and vaguely homicidal vid with a heart of gold.

Speranza's Lifetime Piling Up (Stargate: Atlantis) - Nice jump cutting, witty use of the lyrics, overlays, and creation of mood. It's adorable and endearing.

For the first time in a long time I'm vaguely relaxed. I have everything for my college classes done that can be done. It's weird. Sadly, my financial aid came through and I'm only getting $330. I can't freaking believe that's all I got.

I'm getting annoyed by one of my classmates that has children. One woman faults me for not having any. She said my semester is so much easier than hers because she has a son. OK... I understand that you have a child, but I work and student teach. You don't. Our lives are different, so we can't really compare them. Yet she still says she has a way harder life. Last week she said she got her son a bunch of videogames and he's done nothing but eat, sleep, and play them.

The halloween party and parade at preschool was adorable. The children were all dressed up and had fun. I wish I'd took my camera.

VID RECS:
dragonchic's Orchard of Mines (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) - The song and the spot on editing and pacing make the whole thing feel epic and amazing.

Brad's Goodnight Moon (Heroes) - Extremely creepy with deep and dark family issues. Amazing work from an ever evolving and growing vidder. There are many memorable moments in the vid that made me squee like a girl.

[livejournal.com profile] danegen's Ruiner (Angel) - This vid blew me away and made me wonder how I could have been so blind to the echoing from Connor to Spike with Angel and from Spike to Connor with Angel. It has sickly perfect pacing and flowing editing.

[livejournal.com profile] jarrow272's About Schroeder (Farscape) - Lyrical editing and motion that melds with the music to make a lovely display of Chiana's love.

Kitty's Sick (Resident Evil Trilogy) - So kick ass.

Nicky's What I've Done (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) - Even her supposed "mindless action" is pretty.

[livejournal.com profile] rhoboat's History Repeating (Doctor Who) - Fab intro of Nine and Ten, then their companions, witty parallelling and smart use of lyrics.

[livejournal.com profile] talitha78's Cobrastyle (Smallville) - OMGYES, Lex being awesome and hot. Great introduction of Lex, song choice, use of motion and quirky movements.
