Total of 8 vids, 5 of which are under 2 minutes and could be considered vidlets... I was really into vidlets for the "get in, do the thing, get out" aspect.
My favorite video this year (of my own)Runs in the Family. Absolutely my favorite vid I made this year. It's the most brain to actual timeline vid thing I've produced. My brain categorized all of the source in such a way that I made it a vid. Abigail is a character close to my heart and I stan for her 100%.
Least favoriteWorld Spins Madly On. I had a difficult time making it. I had offered Night Watch and Day Watch for festivids, but I quickly realized I wouldn't be able to finish the vid I was working on, so I put it aside and started watching New Amsterdam to make a vid. Then I scrambled for a song. Then I had to actually vid it. The product ended up with poor pacing because I needed the song to fit the concept of being chronological, which meant the beginning was boring as FRELLING FRAK. Looking back I do enjoy parts of the vid.
Most successful***Flawless. It was inadvertently successful. I made it for Club Vivid, but it didn't fit into the other music, so the Vividcon people offered to let me move it to Challenges. But I didn't like the idea of putting it in Challenges when I didn't make it for the themes, so I asked if I could make ***Flawless my premiere in place of
Runs in the Family, which I had already submitted. It worked out that ***Flawless became my premiere and I released Runs in the Family online pre-VVC. I made ***Flawless for Club Vivid thinking people would dance to it, watch it later, and think "oh ok I get it now." It was a deeply personal experience that I translated into a vid and I didn't think anyone would care about the vid beyond myself, but I was wrong.
Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinionI Do Adore. Only because I didn't know how to tag it properly for the fandom to find it. It was appreciated by friends' child relative and that's all I really wanted.
Video with single sexiest momentYou are a runner & I am my father's son. The :58-1:05 section is hella sexy with the threesome dancing because that scene in the show was awesome. I'm into it even though there is so much sausage in there. Mostly because the sausages seemed equally into each other as they were into Erica. Bless those sad-eyed little puppies and their love of extended eye contact. Then it goes into Erica putting her hand on Scott and Allison's thigh in a same scene deal where Erica tries to intimidate both of them sexually. Of course Allison on top of Erica is hot in a screwed up way considering how that storyline played out. Season one was beautiful fluke.
Biggest vid fail#timeangels. I was trying to make a fake tv promo trailer thingy and I suck at it. I'm still obsessed with the concept and execution of vid trailers.
Hardest video to makeWorld Spins Madly On. Because of the reasons I put in the lease favorite category above.
Most unintentionally *telling* video***Flawless was intentionally telling, so I'll say
Runs in the Family because there's some intense connections to my life that I didn't realize until I rewatched for this meme. (Isn't that always how it happens?)
Things I've learnedI learned a lot about vidders' lyrical interpretation styles for the
Vividcon 2014 Lyrical Interpretation Panel with hollywoodgrrl. I ate everyone's brains and gained their knowledge.
I realized that if I edit with 1080p source, I have to export it as 1080p for it to look good. I have some major exporting regrets this year. I'm upping my technical skills slowly, but I think I'm getting better with time.
I learned that I can't speak well in public about vidding for Vividcon panels.
Things to work onI should ask friends to "beta" by vid summaries for VVC. The one for
You are a runner & I am my father's son confused people and I overestimated the audiences' awareness of the title clip where I used a blur to focus in on just Erica to set up that it was about her. With a little of Boyd.
I need to work on exporting. I have a new laptop, but I can't even get Sony Vegas installed properly on it, so I might have to give up vidding and relearn how to knit.
I'm continuing from previous years with "I want to try vidding female characters that do more than beat people up and make things explode while being pretty." I think I accomplished that with character studies of female characters that are perceived to be weak.
Last year I said "I think this year I want to try considering the audience more to stretch myself." I didn't do it on purpose, but I made an audience appreciated vid for Vividcon premieres... So I'm going to call that goal from last year accomplished and go back to my "fuck bitches; get money" frame of mind because I'm unlikely to make any vid as audience appreciated as ***Flawless.
Wait, I can't call it accomplished completely because I also said "I'd like to make one vid this year where I actually vid for an audience." I kind of did that for Wiscon, but I think I'll keep trying to make something more audience minded for Wiscon_vidparty.
Vid projects I definitely want to get finished this upcoming yearI want to do my vid idea for the Taylor Swift 1989 vid album, which I plan to be my Vidukon vid. I want to finish my festivid assignment. I want to do some Vividcon vids. I had some good ideas for Festivids that I want to keep thinking about. They were treats for friends I wanted to make, but I'm a piece of shit and know I won't be able to finish them by the deadline.
Resolutions for 2014To finish up the questions on the
Vidding Questions Meme. J left a comment that I missed, so I'll start with those, but now I want to answer them all. I noticed some comments on vids I never saw, so I'll be going back to answer those after I finish my festivid.
Again, I want to go to VVC and hope that I won't be laid off again from work. I'm going to suggest a vidshow again because I really enjoyed pulling together the
Femslash vidshow this year. I'm still really pleased with it for the amazing vidders that contributed, the diversity in the sources, the different styles, and the everything of it.
I'm going to make suggestion of some vidshows I'd curate for Wiscon_vidparty again this year too. I really enjoyed curating the
Dessa Playlist in 2014. I already have two possibilities in mind depending on what else I find this year. It depends on what I get for festivids too. I played the long game with my requests and asked for things I put in personal vid playlists.
I changed my vidding note style and want to keep trying new journaling styles. I found an index one I want to try out for 2015.
Continuing to look at last year's resolutions, I failed at being "more social online" in terms of vidding. My interactions are mostly on twitter, which is great aside from the 140 character limit when I'm a wordy mofo. I don't think many of my friends are still on LJ without being on twitter. I'm a terrible friend anyway.
It's after 2am and I think I need to purge myself of work in progress vids that I'm not feeling anymore. So in 2015 I want to release some WIP vids to clear them from my head because nothing kills an idea for me like showing it to people.
OMG, my resolution should be to just vid more.
And in addition:
If there is any question you would like to ask me about any one of my vids, then go ahead! What I meant by a particular clip or sequence, why I chose to highlight that characterization, why I chose that song, what crack I was taking and where you can get some...anything. Anything you might like to know about how I made a vid, I shall do my best to answer.
