Date: 2009-08-15 11:00 am (UTC)When I first watched the vid I thought of it as Bootystyle's similarly fucked-up sibling. But now upon rewatch I'm seeing it much more as a strangely beautiful and moving tale, full of fairytale monsters, heroes and villains underpinned by the friendship between the sick man and the little girl. It feels a lot more innocent than Bootystle in a lot of ways, though no less beautiful. It's a gorgeous vid, and I totally need to hunt down the movie.

Date: 2009-08-16 01:38 am (UTC)Set in the 1920s, a girl (Alexandria) staying in a hospital for breaking her arm while picking oranges is told a story. Roy, whose legs are paralyzed from falling during a stunt for a movie, begins telling her the story, but what she pictures in her head doesn't match his words because she's 6 and she speaks little English at first. The story is about bandits (the Masked Bandit, Otta Benga, the Indian, Luigi, Charles Darwin, and the Mystic) on a quest to kill Governor Odious for their various revenges.
The following contains spoilers for the movie, so ignore if you plan on watching...
SPOILERS BE HERE:
Roy was telling her the story to get her to bring him pills so he could kill himself. He tells her that she has to leave when he falls asleep. A lot of real life circumstances seep into the story Roy is telling the girl. At the end of the movie it is vaguely revealed that the basic plot was taken from the movie Roy was in when he was injured. After he takes the pills and he's falling asleep when the girl inserts herself into the story to save them. The pills didn't work and he throws a fit. She thinks he needs more pills to feel better, so she sneaks into the pharmacy to steal them, but falls from the table. She has surgery, Roy visits her, and she begs him to finish the story. He continues the story, killing nearly every character and making his character a coward drowning in 3 feet of water. She makes him change the ending, the hero winning. As they recover a screening of the movie is given at the hospital, which includes the scene where Roy was injured. The ending is left a bit open with the girl returns to working in the oranges groves. The girl says that her mother took her to the movies and told her Roy was a stuntman in them, so she imagines him doing all the stunts in the movies she watches. The happy ending implies that Roy's legs healed and he got work as a stunt man, while the less happy and more realistic ending implies that the girl's mother lied to her because one clip is given of Roy as the stunt man. The first time it is a different actor, but it's Roy when replayed.

Date: 2009-08-16 01:44 am (UTC)I had a desktop wallpaper of the movie on my desktop when I was vidding. My friend saw it and asked if he was wearing a dress. She eventually watched the movie and text me that it was the hottest dress she'd seen since Neo in The Matrix.
Both this and Bootystyle come from the same direct and he uses many of the same crew and locations, so they have a lot in common visually. The Fall is FAR more endearing and sweet, but it still has a screwed up level to it. I had to leave it out because it didn't work, but it's implied that, if anyone, the little girl is in love with the nurse because she brings her into the story as the love interest. The little girl also loves Roy on a level. In real life she kisses him on the forehead, but it's made to look like she kisses him on the mouth in the story.
Watch the movie. Do it DOOOO EEETT. :)

Date: 2009-08-19 02:05 am (UTC)this is such a gorgeous vid! i love everything about it. the contrast of the beautiful fairytale world with all those rich colours & fantastic happenings - and then the depressing hospital surroundings is amazing. and the movement & shiny, and ... *flails* i love it so much!
and then it's like the two worlds collide & merge, and the depressedness of reality (or something) invades the dream world - heartbreaking and still so lovely.
and tricky, WHEE!
*runs off to watch the movie*
