The Fall is a beautiful movie. Possibly the prettiest movie I've ever watched.

It's very much about the nature of storytelling. Thanks for the comment. I think the vid is successful if one person goes and watches the movie! Even though I kind of killed the ending...

LOL, thanks. The details probably don't make sense without having watched the movie, but dang, is it pretty. :)

I watched the movie this weekend :-)

It was brilliant and made me appreciate this vid even more, especially the choice of music with their very appropriate lyrics.

The song fits the movie in such a perfectly odd way. I'm super glad you watched the movie too!

Their relationship is unusual in a lot of ways. I'd almost say she was in love with Roy, but not in the usual way in movies. She was in love with the idea of him as her father. It's difficult to explain because she's in love with him, but I thought it was less about the romantic and more about the attention and connection.

I think you'd like it too.

Oh WOW!!!!!! I have so much love for this! I don't know where to start. And wow, that is THREE vids on my list of 'must write an essay of feedback to these' now! I am so sorry I got flooded by Fail (personal and communal *G*) and didn't get here for so long...

I will be reccing this and probably writing spammy thoughts about it for a long long time to come...

oh my! I have a very personal relationship with this movie, I wasn't kidding about it being my favourite. It pushes a lot of my personal buttons (in a good-bad way). So watching your vid was enlightening in a way of finding out how someone else sees it the same but different. I particularly liked the way you started making the hospital footage flicker and become like the black and white silent movie footage, blurring creation with reality. It's beautifully constructed. And wow that 'keep living' refrain is so poignant. At the same time as the lyric 'I believe in people dying' works in opposition-connection to it. I'm not expressing this properly yet... I need to flail a bit more first.

Eeeeeee! THE FALL VID! \o/

Wow, thank you. I had to leave a lot of the vid, like the real world counterparts, nearly all the nurse, etc. But that's making a vid, not using the whole movie, even though I wanted to.

I know about fail, so think nothing of it.

The lyrical connections might be somewhat lost without knowing the movie, but the song felt so perfect.

It's so cool to see that it converted people to the movie! I pimped the movie hardcore to my f'list once but I think it only got one taker. ;) I'm toying with making a vid of it myself though but it is haaaaaaard especially as I have all those anxieties about 'doing it justice' and yes, I hit the 'what do you leave out?' things too.

I'd love to do a commentary on this vid some time if that was ok, either in [livejournal.com profile] vid_commentary, on my journal, or just for you. :) I've got to do a lot more watching of it first though, the more I watch the more I get out of the lyrical connections. Also: Tricky yay!

I'm glad people are watching the movie after seeing the vid. It's so freaking beautiful. You should make one as well. It's great source to use. I left out so many things that I could make at least 2 other vids for it.

Tricky's music is so layered. I could listen to some of it on repeat endlessly.

Commentary? That's so cool!

I have no idea what the fuck is going on in this vid but it doesn't seem to matter! (Well that's not true, I'm sure it would be even more awesome if I did know). But the whole concept of storytelling is so well framed and executed--the visual cues you use to slip in and out of the story-within-the story are just...holy hell I do not have an appropriate superlative. And your editing is monumentally gorgeous as always. I just want to knooow that little girl and her crazy, trippy, hopeful little mind!

Hheheh. Thanks! The only thing I wanted people to get out of the vid was that it was a story, so yay! The little girl is amazing and the director too. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] bop_radar, watch it. :)

Wow. I know nothing about the source (except hello! Gorgeous.) but this vid knocked me right over. Completely epic and compelling. Wow.

Lee Pace sort of seals the deal, but there is no way I'm not downloading to watch repeatedly and going to find this movie.

This vid knocks my socks off. It's just gorgeous, and I'm impressed at how accessible it is to those of us who haven't seen the film -- I can follow the story easily, and I get so involved with the characters. Love it.

I posted a rec here (http://laurashapiro.livejournal.com/280635.html), with more blathering about the vid's general awesomeness. (:

I don't know the source, but that is gorgeous. I love the intercutting of the drawing and the tattoos.

The movie is so beautiful. I played with the color and added some effects at certain points, but the gorgeousness of the vid is due to the movie itself.

The drawing and the tattoos are a great scene in the movie where the guy is giving them directions that are shown in the Mystic's tattoos and Darwin writes them in his journal.

When I was making the vid I decided I didn't care if people got the story or not. I only cared if people could tell that it was a story, so I'm glad it's coming off as accessible. I'm so in love with the characters and I wish I was a part of their story.

Thanks for the rec too. :)

(Oh my god, where are all these people getting The Fall icons? Eeee.)

Thanks. Isn't the movie flipping amazing and beautiful? How could I not make a vid after that?

I don't remember where the icons are from, but maybe it's in the userpic info? :)

wow, after seeing that, i gotta be the 10,000th person to say that it's amazing. I never heard of the movie before, makes me want to watch it, so I can see the 2nd level of the video, where the words really match :)

from what I can see, I love the look of it- the imaginary scenes have a really good surrealist quality to them, with the over-saturated colors (and crazy shit happening like trees lighting on fire, lol).
