I LOVE THIS VID SO MUCH. It is everything I ever wanted in a Cookie Lyon vid, which is a LOT. She's so badass, not least because she is vulnerable and often unappreciated and she just keeps going; I love the juxtapositions of her moments of despair and frustration with her absolute conviction that she is RIGHT (because she IS). The entire first "you cut a record on my throat" section is probably my favorite chunk of the vid: Cookie behind the scenes, making things happen. Close second: "Is that you chokin'?" -- best literalism EVER with Lucious unable to speak, and it also kind of crystallized that for me, at least, the "you" in this vid encompasses a lot of people but is mostly Lucious: Lucious is at the root of a lot Cookie's problems, and he's the one most able to hurt her. Even her rivalry with Anika (oh my god the timing on that punch at 3:15, SO SATISFYING) is really about Lucious. And then the structure of the vid itself -- these little mini-sections addressing so many of her personal and professional relationships in sequence -- and the PACE: I love how it starts with longer shots and then picks up when the beat drops and is just relentless from there. I think I said in vid review that the visual intensity of the cuts mirrors the emotional intensity of the show -- it's just phenomenal. I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS VID, IS WHAT I'M SAYING.

In conclusion, pleeeeeeeease post it to Tumblr so I can reblog and harass more people into watching it. :D

Thank you. A lot of why I love Cookie is that she can be vulnerable and it never take anything away from her character.

I wasn't sure viewers would understand that she was producing, so I'm glad that came through.

I will never pass up an opportunity to have multiple lyrical interpretations. Or make fun of Lucious.

I love the Anika and Cookie relationship in the show and I love their dynamic. So much of it is about Lucious and their livelihood.
