lyrics:
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head's been wet with the midnight dew
I've been down on bended knee
Talkin' to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of angel's feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, "John go do My will!"
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's done in the dark will be brought to the light
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut you down
Notes:
I used DJ Schmolli’s mash-up of the vocals of Johnny Cash's God's Gonna Cut You Down, the drums on Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks, the Beastie Boys’ bass from Sabotage, the guitar from Ted Nugent's Cat Scratch Fever, and The Beatles’ lead guitar from Come Together. It’s some seriously amazing work. I downloaded it from MashupTown and I highly recommend it.
After having used Windows Movie Maker for so long and then seeing all the cool things I could do with Vegas without having to write xml was amazing. I fiddled around with it for the 30 days trial and produced this, which I will chalk up to experience and learning. I first got the idea for the vid back in December when it was posted on MashupTown, but then Johnny Cash’s original God’s Gonna Cut You Down was used for a promo for the show, I decided not to make the vid, but then I got a few kicks in the pants and did it anyways.

Date: 2007-02-08 07:30 pm (UTC)MashupTown is where I get about 30% of my mashup tracks from. They have a great selection. If you want to feed your addiction even more, go through the archives and prepare to listen until your eyes bleed.
When I make I vid I always second guess if my meaning will come across, so I'm delighted you got that. :)

Date: 2007-02-09 02:24 pm (UTC)I wanted to stay away from being too literal with the lyrics. And I wanted to emphasize the Dean and John role aspect. :)

Date: 2007-02-10 09:31 pm (UTC)So you made this in Vegas? Did you get that transition from Vegas too? I'm always looking for new discoveries in that program. ;)

Date: 2007-02-10 11:53 pm (UTC)Yep, made in Vegas. It's under transitions > cross effect > cross zoom a only. And depending that the clip order, I sometimes used cross zoom b only. Also, yay for another Vegas user. I'm very in love with it right now.

Date: 2007-02-10 11:32 pm (UTC)As a side note, you said you hesitated on the song because it was used in the promo...having just gotten caught up on the show and starting to think about vidding it, that's a real issue with Supernatural! They use so much music as a part of the show that I think it makes song selection for vidding very sticky. And I really think you made a good choice here.

Date: 2007-02-10 11:50 pm (UTC)With Supernatural, more so than most fandoms, the music selection is difficult and has to be delicate because within the show they set up the soundtrack. There's very good vids that deviate from the show's guidlines too.

I adore the emotion, the affected staticky transitions, the motion... but the thing that really sticks out for me is your amazing sense of pace. It plunges forward, and then suddenly stops and lingers on a scene, then plunges forward. It's just breathtaking.
Your work is so organic and full of a sense of life I don't see in other vids. I vid. This isn't vidding. You do something with which I'm unfamiliar. It's beyond.
Wow.
