Hello!

I totally randomly came across this and I don't even watch this show but!! That was Sarah Shahi, making all the Dani Reese faces (I was a HUGE fan of Life) and... and... I thought Person of Interest was a Two White Guys show (generally something I'm not much interested in) but maybe I was mistaken?? This is a terrific vid, full of drama and emotion and I want to know more about this character immediately. You might have just pimped me into the show. :)

Life is one of my favorite shows. I wish it would have lasted longer. Sarah Shahi's character on Person of Interest, Samantha Shaw, shares a lot of traits with her Dani Reese character. There's a lot of differences as well, but I can't think of a character Sarah Shahi has played that I didn't enjoy. I think she's terrific as Shaw.

Person of Interest is basically a sausage-fest of two white dudes that are slashed together. There's only one female member of the regular cast (Taraji P. Henson as Det. Joss Carter), but Sarah Shahi was added to the regular cast for the upcoming season three. There are episodes that feature a more well-rounded cast of characters. This vid was made from just 2x16, which centered around Shaw. Her character recurred in a couple other episodes and in the last two of season two along with Amy Acker as Root, another very interesting addition. If I were granted one wish, it'd probably be for Shaw and Root to have their own show together.

Thank you! I totally recommend watching 2x16 because it works as an outsider POV and while it works on knowledge of the rest of the show, it centers around non-regular cast members, so there's not any lacking character background.

I miss Life and Dani Reese and her alcoholism. Shaw makes for a great darkdarkdark!Dani Reese. Samantha Shaw is one of my best parts of season two.

wait, this was all from ONE EPISODE of POI?! that is a lot of ass-kicking to cram into 42 (3.5) minutes! I have no idea who this character is, so I just imagined Carmen from The L Word got herself into some trouble, LOL. on a meta level, I REALLY appreciate that you edited out all the slashtastic white dudes and created the Awesome (Femslashy) Lady Show. Woman of Interest?? Regina Spektor's music is so lavish, agressive, and discombobulating -- it meshes really well with your visual style!

YES! She was in a couple other episodes, but I wanted to just use this one episode. There's a resounding lack of good single episode vids. Shahi's characters usually have common traits amongst each other, which make for nice AU perspectives. As much as I enjoy Person of Interest. There. Are. So. Many. Dudes. The female characters are at least more frequently lately, but I didn't watch it at first because I figured it was a run of the mill crime procedural with a twist that would get stale.

femslashy torture whaaaaa? nobody told me *this* when they pimped POI. I see your notes below on the two dudes sausage-fest, so I think I'll wait to hear how S3 goes before jumping on board?

That said, this vid *really* worked for me. There's such a powerful sense of Carmen Dani... er... Samantha's grittiness, how memory fragments when recalling how traumatic shit gets done. Also, everyone seems fucking shifty and like Samantha's world is essentially groundless. Not sure about POI yet, but I DIG THIS SHOW.

YES! And the femslash torture wasn't sexified. It was legit and not just an excuse for a lady's heaving bosom. It's a fantastic scene that really, really, really made me a believer in Shaw/Root. They have mutual kinks. Pretty much laid out in canon.

Torture scene dialogue:
Shaw: One of the things they left out of my file... I kind of enjoy this sort of thing.
Root: I am so glad you said that. I do too.

With the kick off the of episode, Shaw's whole life is destroyed and she tried to "fix" things. Not so much her life, but put things where they should be.

Thank you! 3:16 was one of the first clips I laid down actually. I had a conversation about how single episode vids are usually THE WORST, so I wanted to try and make one that didn't suck majorly. POI really packed a lot into this episode and it gives the impression of a larger scale.

YESSSSSS. I love the song choice - I mean, her music is fantastic in whatever context, but in this particular case I love how you've mapped out the changing tempo of Shaw's actions to the song. She improvises and works with hundreds of variables and she's extraordinarily adaptable, but she has technique and operates in systems and patterns AND THEN ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE and she basically redirects those patterns in the most destructive way imaginable. (YAY.)

I can't wait to see her as a regular this fall. They better not screw it up. *fingers crossed*

Thank you. I thought the pace of the song matched rather well to what I had in my head as the pace of the episode. Obviously the editing isn't chronological, but it felt like it matched pace.

I saw this at Vividcon and couldn't believe I'd missed it before! I love how creatively you used the footage from just the one episode, and pulled off such a rich portrait of Shaw. Particularly liked the way you split the fights up over the course of the vid, so they work as a visual representation of her arc (ending with her kicking lots of ass, naturally *g*). Also liked the use of the Russian section for Cole -- like the way she felt about him was a foreign language -- and then she goes on to bandage her wounds and keep going. ♥

I'm so glad it works as an episode vid. Usually episodic vids can be so bland due to lack of interesting punch the way a season long or series long vid can cherry pick all the good visuals.

I love that you saw the connection of wound patching and how foreign people and interactions are for her. :)
