Total of 6 vids, one of which is a vidlet.

My favorite video this year (of my own)
MoneyGrabber (Smash) because it's a different vid for me. It's actually the second version because the first finished vid file was corrupted. I like how it turned out better because all the female rivalry turned into a more sexualized tension. The first version was more narratively even, but I like that Michael/Julia/Frank service as a cautionary tale in the beginning until it's time for them to go. I enjoy a good love rhombus until it's run it's track and Dev was a cheap time whore. Karen and Ivy have really good cheer sex and should role play in bed.

Least favorite
Hand Covers Bruise Reprise (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) because it did what I wanted it to do, which is make me uncomfortable when I watch it.

Most successful
I didn't really have a successful vid this year when measured in traditional terms, like number of comments. I approached vidding very differently this year and I was successful in eliciting certain things. In those terms, He Called Me Baby (Enlightened) was the most successful. Going to VVC for the first time I wanted to aim for one comment on a vid and if I got that comment, I met my goal. I wanted this one to break someone because I'm evil. I wasn't prepared for the weird looks after Challenges though, lolz.

Video most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion
I don't think any of them were "under-appreciated" simply because I made them with objectives and it doesn't bother me when people don't understand them. Until VVC I didn't fully realize how much of a minority opinion that was. If someone didn't like my vid or didn't understand it, that means it wasn't for them. I was surprised that Long, Long Time Ago (Destino) wasn't liked. I wanted to make something beautiful that I enjoyed, so I appreciate it and I overheard people saying it was beautiful, which is what I wanted.

Video with single sexiest moment
Duh, I See Everything (Firefly/Serenity) because there's actual pornography. I read up on masking tutorials and edited out The Operative. This vid was the only time it's acceptable to edit out Chiwetel Ejiofor. I played with coloring in more organic ways to match different sources. Seriously, why are people frightened by vaginas? They don't eat your soul or have teeth.

Biggest vid fail
I would say Dutch (Hell on Wheels) because I knew what I was doing wasn't going to work, but I did it anyways because I'm stubborn. I'm proud of that vidding fail though. I like it edited that way because Lily talks to fast and is the book that beat the speedreader. I love how her storyline is the more traditionally male origin story. Her husband died to give her motivation and she has visually beautiful dreams of him and his pretty eyes in fields. Hell on Wheels has flaws, but I'm well practiced in ignoring faults of a show for certain characters.

Hardest video to make
I am forever plagued with technical difficulties. ROSEBUD! I made Hand Covers Bruise Reprise (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in Adobe Premiere 6.5 and I hate using that program for main editing. I like using it for "spices" when vidding primarily in Sony Vegas 11. I rendered that vid at least 50 times and I still think I messed it up in the end.

Most unintentionally *telling* video
Hmm, all of them have some level of personal issues that I leech into them, but He Called Me Baby (Enlightened) has a lot of emotional resonance for me in my real life. I stopped most of my emotional spewing on my livejournal, which is a good thing, but a couple of people would be able to watch the vid and see how telling it is.

Things I've learned
Last year I wanted to work on how to participate more and be meaningful in conversations about vidding. In my own way I did that, but I thought and talked more about vidding than I did actual vidding. I don't think I'll ever be able to talk fluidly about vidding because I don't translate the things in my head to words well. I cannot even count how many times at VVC I tried to think of a word and couldn't, stuttered for 30 seconds and gave up. I know I'm not verbally gifted, especially when it comes to something that I don't talk about, like vidding or art. I think I did ok, but probably came off like a tool.

While not strictly about vidding, I did learn that VVC is far different than what I expected. I tried to hang out with as many different people as I could. It's a lot more of a social arena than I expected. I thought it was going to be a hair-braiding, love fest and it's not. There's still rude people and people with stupid, uninformed opinions. It's exactly like a real world only with more glitter. I learned that the people I like online aren't the people I like in person and the people I dislike online aren't the people I dislike in person. That's a complicated way of saying that I learned that people didn't behave the way I expected for the better and the worse.

I also learned to look at my vidding catalog more analytically. I wrote meta this year too, Vidding as My Own Flavor of Feminism. I want to try vidding female characters that do more than beat people up and make things explode while being pretty.

And [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 pointed out that I've been rendering wrong my whole vidding life, which I didn't know. I am FAILBOAT.

Oh, and what I thought was clipping was really me pulling an entire movie or a tons of episodes into Sony Vegas and trimming from there. Oops. FAILBOAT REDUX.

Things to work on
I sent the wrong file into VVC for the DVDs this year, so next year I will be very careful when I'm rendering and naming so that I don't send it a file with stray frames like a douchecanoe. This year I'm going to focus on making vids that have higher quality video instead of lower quality for artistic reasons that make them muddy.

Vid projects I definitely want to get finished this upcoming year
Every time I say to myself, "self, you are going to finish this vid this year," I don't do it. I will say that I'm going to make a premiere for WisCon. (Everyone should make a premiere for WisCon.) I have a WIP in mind for a Vidukon premiere too, but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it. I have a Doctor Who vid that would be cool for CVV and an idea for a VVC Premiere as well. With VVC Challenge being Amnesty, I want to finish an old idea for that. [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora saw all my WIPs, so she can't tell.

Resolutions for 2013
Go to VVC again and hope that my school doesn't have another in-service on the dates.

I am planning to put together a femslash vidshow with lots of premieres for VVC2013 if everything pans out.

I'm going to use smaller journals for vidding, which makes them portable because writing on my arms and hands is not cute at 26. That and people shouldn't be able to read "dress = power" and wonder what drugs I'm on. Plus, I feel accomplished when I finish a journal. My first vidding journal was massive and took years to fill.

And in addition:
If there is any question you would like to ask me about any one of my vids, then go ahead! What I meant by a particular clip or sequence, why I chose to highlight that characterization, why I chose that song, what crack I was taking and where you can get some...anything. Anything you might like to know about how I made a vid, I shall do my best to answer.

You're being awfully cryptic about who you liked and who you didn't so I can only hope I'm not someone you hated in person. :P

I thought this exact same thing!
