ETA: Fixed.
My aspect ratio is coming out wonky and I have no clue how to fix it. My source is 720x400:

but when I render it from Vegas as DV Widescreen and the dimensions 720x400 it looks like this:

I tried rendering as DV with the dimensions set to 720x400, but it looks like this:

I also tried DV and DV Widescreen under 720x480, but the come out with the letterboxing at the top and bottom.
Does anyone have thoughts as to how I'm made of FAIL when it comes to rendering? Or a way to fix it?
(I'm going to cross post to comms later if no one on my flist can help.)

Date: 2009-04-09 01:36 am (UTC)I rendered a small section and ran it through AutoGK, but it's keeping the bars and coming out stretched:
Is there a setting I might have messed with that is keeping the black bars? I only started using AutoGK in the last few months, so I could have screwed up the defaults.

Date: 2009-04-09 01:49 am (UTC)As I master out of my NLE as a DVD (ie VOB files) it may fare better with chopping the black bars off.
The only other thing I can suggest is to take that UNCOMPRESSED AVI & run it through Virtual dub mod. Go to Video->Filters & "Add" a Sharpen one.
Leave the slider on zero & then the Cropping Button will become clickable. Go into it & crop off the black bars from top & bottom.
Then "Add" a Resize filter - if your original source is set to 700x400 without any black bars, then make this the new resolution of your AVI.
Once done click OK & save the uncompressed AVI to a new uncompressed AVI (no quality loss). Hopefully this will bring the aspect ration back to its original - though there may bechance that there will be some visual "blockyness"
Failing that, ask the question in vidding tech - if you haven't already done so. Im not too familiar with Vegas & the method I describe above involves a fair bit of fucking around, & you don't want to have to do that everytime...

Date: 2009-04-09 02:30 am (UTC)Thank you so very much. That works, but the "blockyness" you mentioned is extreme. It's for CVV and it would be very apparent when big. I'll post to vidding tech tomorrow and see if there's a way to make is less "blocky".
P.S. Lily Allen replies icon-style to Neo. :)

Date: 2009-04-09 03:18 am (UTC)I know I could probably suss it out if I was sitting at your PC through trial & error in Vegas itself, but yes your best bet is to ask someone who uses it.

Date: 2009-04-09 02:30 am (UTC)So, I'm not sure if this is really your problem or not but what I usually do with aspect ratio, is like what KC said. I crop each clip itself. I right click, go to 'event pan/crop' and then on the left hand side panel under 'source' i choose no for 'maintain aspect ratio'. Then when I render it I would just set the size to 720x400.
So, yeah you could try that and hopefully it'll help. If not then I'm sorry, I'm not sure I really know how to fix that problem. But good luck!
ps. I can't wait to see this vid! I can just imagine how beautiful it's going to be! :)

Date: 2009-04-09 03:12 am (UTC)Oh man I know. I saw The Fall twice in the theater. I can't believe such beauty was actually locations and not CGI.

Date: 2009-04-09 03:18 am (UTC)Ohhh, isn't it beautiful? I still can't believe there's no CGI in it. Not even when the butterfly fades into Butterfly Island.
