If you've ever wanted to know what it's like for me to work in a grocery store (because you're all dying to know what working in a deli/bakery feels like), this is the brillant short film (Cashback) that comes the closest.

"Ben is an art college student in London, whose imagination runs wild as he works the late-night shift at the local supermarket. What do he and his colleagues do to pass the long, endless hours of the night?"

I daydream A LOT at work and make ridiculous doodles on orders. There's times that the store is so dead I don't see another human being for 2 hours. Agg. It's clean as hell in the deli those nights.

The short was made into a film too. It's quite good.

God, I wish my grocery store was slow and boring. We work and run around so much I want to collapse from exhaustion - never boredom. I mean, we have so much people we can't walk through some of the aisle and I have bruises on my hips from grocery carts bumping into me.

There's times when it's horribly slow and then there's times when I have a line of 8 groups and I'm the only one there. Anymore there's no in between. They cut hours because it's so slow, but it's worse when we get busy now.

I hate walking to a different department through the store of customers, so I can't imagine having to be in them all the time.

I don't work there that many hours anymore, and technically I do the fine cheeses, so I'm in a section all my own and don't really work on the slicers anymore, but yeah, that's where I've worked since I finished high school, through cegep, university and grad school.

Huh. I thought everyone knew, I bitch about it so much. Last year I nearly cut off my finger on a slicer, but maybe we weren't friends then.

We watched this short film in my Video Art class and I thought it was great. It was actually expanded into a feature length film too, which I also enjoyed. The feature length version is available to watch instantly online thru Netflix.

I watched it just last week and loved it. I think it's great as a short film too.

I'm in love with the Watch Instantly feature on Netflix. I have watched SO MANY movies on there. I've only had it installed properly for a few weeks and I think I've watched nearly 100 movies on there. It's insane.

I used to work at a Russian food store. Does that count? Felt proud one day when I could tell exactly the correct weight of deli meats just by weighing them in my hand.

OMG, I can weigh stuff in my hand too. The customers are strangely impressed when I put a perfect pound or pound and a half automatically on the scale. I won't lie, I'm pretty pleased with myself too. :) I know it's 9 slices of Biery yellow American cheese on 8 of the slicer to equal a half pound, 8 slices of swiss on 9 to equal half a pound, etc. My life is sad, but I'm oddly happy with myself.
