Out on the corner with cast iron blood
10,000 or more with hearts on the run
They say I might die and I may be cold
I may have no Jesus I may have no soul
In prison I hear there's time to be good
But the first thing you see is the last thing you should
Well I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life in here is the life I've been told
Yeah I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life out here is the life I've been sold
They say there's a passin' where all stand to judge
But the devil's a waitin' with Christ like a son
When the look comes your way best say was I
For the reasons you hold give reasons to die
The calling's impatient and cause never won
But the last one to say it may last through the flood
Well I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life in here is the life I've been sold
Yeah I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life out here is the life I've been told
I'm born in weary but life's just begun
And I've run from the reasons and run to the gun
They say I'm the killer and thy will be done
And the doors won't be open when I finally become
And I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life out here is the life I've been sold
Yeah I've seen the battle and I've seen the war
And the life in here is the life I've been told
We're falling fast but we've no cares
We know our Lord's gonna meet us there
We pray our Lord's gonna meet us there
We know our Lord's gonna meet us there
Falling fast but we've no cares
We know our Lord's gonna meet us there
We pray our Lord's gonna meet us there
Notes: This was an experiment in vid accessibility. I wanted the vid to work on two levels. One being a view familiar with the show, watching and already knowing the where the vid will go. The other being a viewer unfamiliar with the source and not having watched the episodes. It's a three-fold experiment. I want to see if people can "tap into the vid" without knowing the source, if I could vid well enough to get the idea across, and if it works for a person that has watched the episodes.

Date: 2007-12-12 02:28 am (UTC)Within the first episode I used it was set up that the first guy (Charles) was shot and I thought he would die, but then they stablized him and their extraction arrived, so it seemed like everything was fine and they were going home. Then the second man (Hector) was shot as they drove away and died instantly. The second episode I used in the vid was the fall out and funeral.
I'm glad the intercutting of the funeral worked. I wanted viewers to think Charles died, then realize it was actually Hector's funeral at the end.
I love the camera work on the show and I wanted to use it to the fullest extent. :)

Date: 2007-12-31 08:11 pm (UTC)I think the iconic moment of the vid in every way is 2:55-2:57, as the face swings in on the vocal and then the shot of the hand just after. So powerful.
You know... your effects - what you did with the text and the film strip look - are so cool, but they're almost an afterthought for the viewer because (1) they fit so well that you don't really see them and immediately deconstruct them; and (2) the core level source+music connection is so powerful in itself that the effects are just kind of sprinkled over on top of that.
This is some of your best work, Whitney. You've always been in your own league, but I think in your last three or four vids you've really taken it to an even higher level. Now stop. I think my brain is gone.

Date: 2007-12-31 08:59 pm (UTC)I love BRMC's music and The Units camera work, so I'm glad I could put them together.
The film strip effect I did came from the opening credits of the show. I had fun trying to recreate the effect.
I think in your last three or four vids you've really taken it to an even higher level.
Thank you. It makes me feel better considering no one has actually watched them.
Now stop.
Heheh, I have because of a work injury. Vidding one handed is slooooooooow. :)

Vidding one handed is slooooooooow.
Hey, maybe if you vidded one handed for the rest of your life I might actually have a chance of being as productive as you!

As far as I'm concerned, doing things one-handed for a while is better than doing things with 9 fingers for the rest of my life.
