George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words
Jun. 23rd, 2008 02:08 amI hadn't intended it to spam today, but in honor of George Carlin:
I've given up all pretense of not being a spammer today.
My local library started getting in comics lately and it's the summer, so I'm plowing my way through decades of comics, graphic novels, and I'm engrossed in the Fell comic (written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Ben Templesmith). I love the concept of the nine panels in the beginning of the series and the evolution. There are only 9 issues and the vaguely promised issue 10 has not been released. The issues have self-contained storylines, while still having background ongoing themes. It focuses on Richard Fell, a homicide detective reassigned to Snowtown, which is has the look of an inner city and the feel of a third-world country.
The art is so beautiful. Ben Templesmith is amazing. He has this odd mix of cartoon-y European style, which I love. It's almost like Scott Morse's lines and shape had a baby with Ted McKeever's tone and value. Check out my icon for a hint at the awesome that lies within.
Seriously, I need to know what the frak is going on with the nun.
Image Comics has the first issue available online for your enjoyment.
