You know, I am not so opposed to Sylar actually being straight. At all. I would even be more okay wtih Sylar/Elle had the flashback Villains stuff made more sense. I think my favorite Sylar/Elle bits are actually from the Untold Stories of season 2 -- when Bob had sent Elle to bait Sylar and he's all stalkery while she's being all Veronica Marsy. In the immortal words of Paris Hilton, that's hot... in a fictional setting. *cough*
I don't like how either Elle forgot that Sylar killed her dad and tried to hurt her or they didn't make it apparent enough that Elle was manipulating Sylar via the power of sex. It was all too retconned and that made me sad. I wanted her to be psycho like she was with Peter. The Bonnie and Clyde potential was so. high. but woe, they didn't sell it properly, for whatever reasons.
The way they killed her off, too, was so unsatisfying. I know the show blew most of their CGI budget at the beginning of season 3 with the stuff that Did Not Make sense, but Elle had shocked Sylar once in Level 5 when he was trying to slice open her head and he flew backwards and was knocked out. There they were right by an ocean. Had Elle zapped him, he could have flown back, into the water and she could have charged the water. Sizzle! Or Sylar could have thrown her into the water and made it snap crackle and pop. But. The show can't get too dark like that, I guess. The director wanted to include wider, more sweeping shots of the immolation scene but the network told them to pull back because it was too much.
Not to mention that Sylar didn't have to kill her by opening her head since he had her power already. He could have, I dunno, choked her or... nrrrgh. sigh.
I'm not opposed to Sylar being straight either. He comes across as mostly heterosexual to me, except for Mohinder. His character has a lot of potential relationship-wise, I think. Not to mention Zachary Quinto could ooze sex tension with a kitchen counter.
My own personal fix-it on Elle "forgetting" that Sylar killed her father is that she realized her dad was a bastard and was glad Sylar killed him. Noah said that Bob did some horrible things to Elle when she was just a child. Psycho!Elle was the best. I choose to believe that she mellowed out to play a part in manipulation.
Elle's death was sad for me because I loved her character and thought there was so much more that could have been done with her. I have a vid fix-it I want to do, but I'm so out of love with Heroes that I might not get to it for a while. I do wish they'd have done something more like what you mentioned. If they wanted the shot of Sylar and the fire, then she could have washed back to shore and he set her on fire. I did get the slicing head open thing though. Sylar likes doing it, so it felt fine with me that he sliced her even though he had her power. It was pointless, but he probably enjoys the sound and how the blood drips down.

Hehhehe, maybe Sylar likes it on the bottom with women?
Sylar/Elle is one of the pairings I can't get myself to write properly. Another in my long list.
Milly wants to bathe in Sylar/Claire fics. :)
