Vidding Questions meme 2014

I'm the terrible person that's posting a questions meme while I'm still working on the answers to the last one I posted. But I'm a follower and I'm jealous of everyone else getting into vidding discussions.

Give me a number (or several) and I will answer!

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-vid.
2. Is there a genre or style you've yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
3. Is there a genre or style you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole?
4. How many vid ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
5. Share one of your strengths.
6. Share one of your weaknesses.
7. Point to a section from one of your favorite vids you've made and explain why you're proud of it.
8. Which vid was the hardest to make?
9. Which vid was the easiest to make?
10. Is vidding your passion or just a fun hobby?
11. Is there a section of canon above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
12. What's the best vidding advice you've ever come across?
13. What's the worst vidding advice you've ever come across?
14. If you only could vid one show/movie for the rest of your life, which show/movie would it be?
15. Do you work mostly from start to finish, or do you vid sections out of order?
16. Do you use any tools, like clip notes or storyboards?
17. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
18. Describe your perfect vidding conditions.
19. How many times do you usually revise your vid before posting?
20. Choose a section from one of your earlier vids and talk about whether and how you'd do it differently now. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).
21. If you were to revise one of your older vids from start to finish, which would it be and why?
22. Have you ever deleted one of your published vids?
23. What do you look for in a beta?
24. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
25. How do you feel about collaborations?
26. Share three of your favorite vidders and why you like them so much.
27. Do you accept prompts?
28. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your vids being canon compliant?
29. How do you feel about smut?
30. How do you feel about crack?
31. Which is your favorite site for posting vids?
32. Talk about your current vids in progress.
33. Talk about a comment or review that made your day.
34. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

8. Which vid was the hardest to make?

Hmmm, I am forever messing up the technical parts of vidding. I'm exporting incorrectly and encoding wrong. But overall World Spins Madly On (http://kiki-miserychic.livejournal.com/225244.html) for festivids was the hardest vid for me. I had offered Night Watch and Day Watch for festivids, but I quickly realized I wouldn't be able to finish the vid I was working on, so I put it aside and started watching New Amsterdam to make a vid. Then I scrambled for a song. Then I had to actually vid it. The product ended up with poor pacing because I needed the song to fit the concept of being chronological, which meant the beginning was boring as FRELLING FRAK. Looking back I do enjoy parts of it, but I feel like it was a failure. I liked parts of the show, but not a majority of it. It had promise, but was really tied up and didn't iron out what it wanted to do and where it wanted to go. LOL, THE SAME AS I DID WITH MY VID. Nice epiphany I had there.

15. Do you work mostly from start to finish, or do you vid sections out of order?

I'm a bounce around vidder most of the time. I hit the sections I can see most vividly in my mind first, then work my way out from those places until everything connects.

26. Share three of your favorite vidders and why you like them so much.

OMG HOW COULD THIS MEME ONLY ALLOW ME THREE FAVES!?!?!?!?

I've been thinking about this questions since I got the comment notification and I was wondering when I'd work my way down to it.

AHHHHHH, CHOICES.

Ok, I know one is [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl because she has not only great vidding style, but also drops amazing verbal comment advice bombs too. Like at 1am tipsy she's all as vidders we control the beginning and end points of a clip. Take control and don't use where the original editor started the clip or ended it. Make them your cuts. And I'm sitting on the bed like truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue, son, truuue with my mind blown and colors becoming more vibrant and then I cry myself to sleep because OF COURSE.

I'd have to say [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 because she has such a calculated approach to her vids. She knows exactly what she wants to do with her vid and she knows all sorts of little tools and tricks to get the audience there.

Lastly, I am forever studying how [livejournal.com profile] bananainpyjamas / dragonchic handles musicality and motion. I literally have put her vids in VLC player and watched them at .25 speed to hear and see exactly how she decided where and when to cut with the music and with the cut itself.

It helps that I'm friends with them and can e-mail them questions and try to rip off their sweet style, then call it an homage.
