vid - All These Things That I've Done - Battlestar Galactica

vid title: All These Things That I've Done
music: The Killers
source: Battlestar Galactica
duration: 3:51
notes: After a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria about the duality of the sleeper Cylon (the final four - Saul Tigh, Sam Anders, Tory Foster, and Galen Tyrol), I wondered how they saw themselves. I think Tigh sees himself as two people, while Tory sees herself as "becoming" her real self with the knowledge of her true nature. Tory is an extremely complex and interesting character that I had to explore her in vid form for the Manifesto Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] thearchive2.
summary: Tory Foster's Manifesto. A season four Battlestar Galactica character study of Tory Foster.

I'm completely awestruck at how using the acoustic version of the song really makes the vid into something it would be if you'd used the studio version. Holy-fucking-cylon. o_O

It's so gritty and poignant at the same time. I'm digging the color and the choppy Tory bits all over the place, especially the spot where he's singing about "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier" with her and Cally sleeping with Gaius. So fantastic.

Thanks.

I went for the acoustic version for the drums. At certain parts the drums sound like the ones Bear McCreary uses for the score.

YAY you made a Tory vid! I love it very very very much. The flickery cutting transfers her between alliances and betrayals with the perfect discomfort and grace. The vid definitely made me feel I was experiencing Tory from the inside. Also, I heart the Cylons being 'direction from perfection'.

♥ I know I am going to watch this many many many more times.

Cool, you picked up on how I was editing across Tory's relationships.

Enjoy!

TORY VID! YAY!

This is great.

You use the acoustic version of this song to great effect, and the way you pick up on the choppy strumming with the cuts really pulls away from the general perception of acoustic as being something softer. It also works really well within the confines of the vid.

Basically I want to praise the editing style, but I'm not entirely sure how, because what I mean is...you make really good use of the fact the acoustic track is choppy in terms of the cuts, but also in terms of when you let the clip hang because there's silence in the background, when the single guitar has stopped strumming.

And as always, I love your use of lyrics. :)

Thanks for sharing!

CYLONS ARE LOVE!

I like editing to acoustic versions. It comes with the original version, but there's a new layer. The sounds are different.

I've been trying to use longer clips and get more emotionally involved for the editing. I usually go for flash over emotion. Hopefully I'm finding a good balance.

Thanks!

Wow this was fantastic! I loved your reasons for doing the vid, the conversation you had is exactly the kind of thinking Tory should spark. She's such a fascinating character. I'm so glad she got bumped up to be as important as she is as one of the FF. Great job!

Tory is an amazing character. There's so much there to use and explore. I think it's my favorite of the FF, but I quite love them all.

Thanks.

Tory! I have so much love for this. The song choice is so interesting, and yet, oddly perfect. Your editing is amazing. So great.

Thanks. I wanted to try something new with this one.

This is fantastic. I think that Tory is such an interesting character that gets a lot of unreasonable hatred and this really sums up all of the things about her story I find so fascinating. I love the editing and how the flickering clips mirror her inner dialogue. Great concept and execution. Definitely one to download.

Thanks.

I don't understand the Tory hate. I think she's so interesting. She's a character with more under the surface.

I'm glad the editing works for you. I was worried it wouldn't go over well.

GORGEOUS.

And as a Tory fan -- thank you. :)

I really like how this vid played so much around Tory's face/eyes, there's something that always seems small and forgotten about her. I think she's scary as hell sometimes, but still... for lack of a better word, human.

Seriously brilliant use of the quick editing, it just felt natural. That sequence of the Final Fivers at the beginning (0:15) flashing repeatedly through them and back to Tory was especially cool.

Thank you. Tory is so amazing and Rekha Sharma has great eyes. She gets things across very well with just her face.

I just came here on [livejournal.com profile] chaila43's rec and I enjoyed this very much! I love that song but hadn't heard this version of it and it went so well with Tory's POV, including all the frustration and the confusion of it.
