All of us were sitting together at Challenge and right after this vid we all leaned across and said "Whitney?" to each other and nodded vigorously, and that was that as far as the double-blind went. NO ONE does the fucked-up the way you do. (And also we all punched the air in triumph when it was revealed that you in fact did it because Oh Hai, It Was Our Awesome Friend and we got to bask vicariously.)
The first time I watched this at the show I felt like I really got the Fuck You. Upon rewatch now I'm no longer sure that was your primary meaning, but I'll lay it down anyway and would love to hear your thoughts on it.
My initial reading revolves around the juxtaposition between the zombie whores and the Wincest. I keep seeing the zombie misogyny to the very heavy grinding beat, the blood, the Missing Reel, and among that you splice the graphic Wincest to the much softer, ballad-y stuff, and to me that's the equivalent of flipping off the SPN fangirls for enjoying "lalala the boys are hot when fucking each other" when there are much more sinister themes at play both in the show and in the vid. The first time I watched it, the vid wasn't so much about a linear narrative as it was a scream of frustration at SPN fandom. The more I watch it the more I pick out a narrative thread, but not having seen any of the zombie movies it's hard for me to piece out where it starts or ends. But that's enough wank for now. It's a fucking brilliant vid and probably the most graphically grotesque I've seen, not just for the con but probably anywhere ever, which - YAY. :D You twisted genius, you.

I had a bit of underhanded subtext because, in my head, it was part of the Fuck You challenge. Not in a mean, "I hate you all" kind of way, but in a personal "Fuck You, I'm using a billion effects because that's how I roll" way. After I completed this vid and considered the other vids I had made for VVC, I almost felt like I needed a disclaimer that said I don't hate women. I thought that a lot of what I was trying to say wasn't going to read and everyone was going to hate it and be offended. I obviously overthought it. Cherry had to die for many reasons, both technnical and narratively, and I wanted to play with that. On the surface she seems to die so that Sam and Dean can have angsty motel sex because that is a major theme in slash. Technically, masking is hard, yo. Then I had my own thoughts about awesome female characters... they die.
I originally wasn't going to have wincest, but I liked playing with the manips for your Climbing Up the Walls that I decided to test out using masks. As you can see, I went with it. I'm glad I did because my original version was so vague about the wincest that it wouldn't have read by the viewer.
On the surface I wanted it to work as the horror grindhouse feel that Supernatural sometimes aims for with the porn, but falls short of achieving. The majority of Supernatural fandom dislikes the female characters. (I'm not pointing out individuals and I'm generalizing, so hopefully no one throws things at me.) Supernatural doesn't write women well, so I had to take a female from another fandom. One that likes women who are strippers or lesbians.
I have other thingy thoughts, but there was much better meta than this at VVC.

First thing, I'm more of a 'visual' kind of vidder, meaning that I tend to like a vid more for its 'superficial' value than for all the concept and plot and whatever that can be hidden beneath (even if obviously I like when someone manages to get her/his point across only with clips, even if that's very hard to accomplish imo).
For me a video like this is like candy, because I bask in the effects and the motion and the colors...and the fantastic song (sorry for asking, but I've always liked this song to death, but I know only the Beatles one. Do you know if that one is the original version? Cause now I'm confused *lol*).
So, I have to honestly admit that I was so taken in the pretty fucked up stuff that was going on that I missed the plot ^^' I'll have to watch it again to be sure I haven't missed to much anyway :)
So, uhm, we have zombies, and pretty girl from Grindhouse making out with Dean, and then the cool pretty girl is no more but there are still zombies and Wincest too! Do I get the main logic behind the video? :)
And I just couldn't miss the talk about fandom, and freaking out fangirls and sexism...so, did someone criticise some of your vids because they are, like, offending to women?!?
If that's the case I symphatise with your Fuck You...and even if that's not the case, because I can't stand these arguments anymore. I keep seeing them and seeing them and I just want to watch what I like and enjoy it for what it is, and not have to deal with those misplaced crusaders that keep missing the point. Anyway, can't they stop watching stuff if they are so OFFENDED by EVERYTHING? Too much time on their hands, that's what brings on the useless endless discussions and the wanks, not real belief on something.
So, I may have no morality to speak of but I enjoyed your vid and I didn't find it offending at all. Does that make me a bad person?
You just reminded me I NEED to watch Grindhouse...I feel like the only loser that has missed it ^^'
Oh and I'll probably rewatch this again and come back with more thoughts because that's my MO. So, later!

I think the visuals are one of the first things that a viewer connects to. Maybe that's just the way I watch vids. I had so much fun torturing Vegas to make this vid, so it's great to hear someone liking all the effects and flashiness.
This version is from the movie Across the Universe. They took the Beatles' songs and created a musical around them. It's amazing and well worth the watch.
Wincest is always the answer. Sometimes zombies. But mostly wincest. :)
I haven't heard of anyone openly say my vids were offending. When I was making I was concerned about it coming off that way. It seems like so many people are getting offended by things that I didn't want to add to the pile.
If you have no morality for liking it, then I certainly have no morality for making it. YAY, let's dance the dance of lack of morality. *doo doo doo do doo doo do do*
Grindhouse is more about the idea than the execution. When the two movies first came out I was so hyped up about them, but now that it's been a while I can see major flaw. They are still awesome movies though.

I'm down with that plan.

And thanks for the rec anyway!

I have a Massive Attack song in mind for a vid that will allow me to play with all the effects I want, and I can't wait :)
Wow, a musical around my favourite Beatles' song? I have to watch that movie like right now.
So, I watched this again and I REALLY loved it, I needed something like this. SPN vids tend to be all the same you know? Mine too *lol* Well, not only SPN I guess...and while I usually don't do much with most crossovers because they are often ship videos that pair up the Winchester boys with some girl from (too often) some soap-operish show or from Buffy, and I don't like neither, yours was so different. So thank you for this!
If you all your other vids use this cool music and odd visuals I think i need to go and download a lot!
And YAY, I'm doing the lack of morality dance right now! We'll run over old ladies crossing the street and drink directly from the milk carton and I'll start making Alien/Dean ship videos to keep up with your zombie videos and the world will fear us and respect us! \o/
Oh, madness apart, I'll look forward to more vids from you then :)
When those movie came out I was dubious about watching them, even if there was one of my cult actors in there (Kurt Russel) and obviously I have a crush on Tarantino and his evil minions. I read so many controversial reviews that I started to fear that they sucked and it was only the diehard fans that were defending it...then I completely forgot about them, till today ^^'
But I'm going to watch them now, because I feel like a baaaad person for dropping something without even watching it *lol*

Thanks. I thought it would be fun to put so many things in a blender and make something new. I usually don't like crossovers, so it was weird to make one.

YES!
Grindhouse wasn't the best, but it was still enjoyable and an interesting concept.
