summary: Faux Battlestar Galactica trailer using Blade Runner
notes: When planning out what I wanted to do with each of [livejournal.com profile] thearchive2 challenges, I knew I wanted to create a faux trailer to play with the hybrid challenge. I've noticed a recurring cross-pollination among my interest in robots. Earlier this year I created a Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles vid, Does Cameron Dream of Electric Sheep?, which was a reference to the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the basis for Blade Runner.

Through conversations with other members of the community, it became apparent that Blade Runner was the obvious choice. Battlestar Galactica certainly owes a great deal to Blade Runner in terms of theme and idea. They both deal with implanted memories, vague questioning of being human, love, and other aspects. With the Cylon, they have their own culture, faith, justice, ideas, and history. They are not human, but what is so wonderful about being human? Why is it so important that we consider and question whether the Cylon are "more human than human"? As [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria has mentioned, the difference between Battlestar Galactica and Blade Runner was the nature of the robots. For her, the existence of replicants never "clouded what it actually meant to be human". I thought about that for a bit because I agreed, yet I think that while the existence of robots don't always call the essence of humanity into question, they at least can make humanity question themselves.

I had almost completed the vid and was in need of static source. Everyone in The Know knows to go to [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu for static source, but he was luckily out the door to VVC. I was still debating what to name the fake trailer. [livejournal.com profile] projectjulie sent me a friend request on imeem, which then made me watch everything on her account. I found her season three BSG vblog in which she refers to an aspect of BSG, Cylon Runner, so Bang! there's my title.

Extremely cool. I liked the way you used Tory especially (and she's the epitome of where BSG goes beyond Blade Runner in the way she embraces her nonhumanity, right?)

I think I really have to go and watch Blade Runner now.

I adore Tory. She goes right out to the edge of it all.

I have the gigantic 5 disc ├╝ber special edition. There's too many versions of the movie to decided which one to watch. :)

Screenplay by the Cylon God! Bwaha! Points to you. :D Loved it of course. Loved the Hybrid especially. Very cool audio matching on that crazy bird.

The Cylon God e-mailed the script and the hybrid demanded to be in the trailer.

Wow, this came out extremely well! It feels so slick and glossy. Also love your playful (and AWESOME) lipsyncing.

Ohhh, have you watched Blade Runner?

Only about 847 times. What do I look like, someone who's NOT a child of the 80s?

EHehehe, I should have known. I remember my aunt being appalled that I'd never watched it. She went the next day, bought me the DVD, and made me watch it. Now I love it way more than she does.

Oh the 80s!
